If MCAS saved this plane I'm going to lose it

Related: if anyone WITH MCAS has recs for meal replacement drinks that don't contain MCAS triggers I'd love links (from people WITH MCAS ONLY, I do not have the energy to explain repeatedly why 99% of options are impossible)
Note to everyone I have texts/emails outstanding from bc it's easier than individual responses: I'm gonna be super slow to respond because the embodiment bullshit is rapidly escalating and I am clinging to "functional" by my very battered fingernails, I am hoping to get SOME relief soonish --

So if you've got a weird symptom that fits with MCAS, there's a very good chance it's MCAS.

On to #MCAS.

MCAS is very challenging to diagnose, and mast cells can release hundreds of mediators, potentially, it's not all about tryptase levels.

Lots of crossover with MCAS, #LongCOVID, #MECFS.

The grocery store has a giant bowl of cut up fruit on special that HAS NO STRAWBERRIES IN IT. (Say it with me: they're a MCAS trigger and I'm allergic!)

20% have MCAS? As in that many people have this ticking time bomb and don’t know? Fuck.

Oh my God. A contractor for the state of #Massachusetts used AI to score MCAS standardized tests. It resulted in incorrect scores on about 1,400 tests, which had to be rescored.

'No rhyme or reason': AI grading issue affects hundreds of MCAS essays
The use of AI to score Massachusetts’ standardized MCAS tests resulted in errors that affected hundreds of exams, the NBC10 Investigators learned.

So in most people who don't have actual MCAS, the reaction to Novavax will *probably* be lesser. But the spike protein is still a mast cell degranulation trigger, and MCAS is *really* underdiagnosed (the guess at true prevalence by the consensus-2 diagnostic standard is about 15-17%!)
September 29, 2026 at 2:51 PM
This is probably because MCAS is a sensitizing disorder and a lot of long COVID behaves almost identically to MCAS: the likelihood is the people with the MCAS-like long COVID had a predilection to it before and enough exposures to mast cell sensitizers was enough to activate the disease.

Heute ist #MCASAwarenessDay.

Und noch immer gilt:

Wer an MCAS leidet, kämpft nicht nur gegen den eigenen Körper – sondern auch gegen Unwissen, Vorurteile und medizinische Ignoranz.

But I'm so loud about MCAS because it was underdiagnosed even before COVID and COVID is enough of a mast cell sensitizing event that a LOT of people with subclinical MCAS are having it triggered post-COVID because MCAS is a sensitizing disorder, etc.

MCAS and Histamine: Diet isn’t the Only Answer

Often people think of MCAS as only impacting histamine. They adopt a restrictive low histamine diet - but don’t improve.

This article explains why that is and explores other lifestyle modifications and tips to reduce flare ups:

If you’re dealing with Long Covid - there’s a chance you’re also dealing with MCAS and/or POTS/Dysautonomia.

They’re two of the most common comorbids - and can have a devastating impact on quality of life.

New allergies? Alcohol intolerance? Dizziness? Fatigue? Fainting?

So yeah, whether you have MCAS or not, meh, who knows: you clearly have SOMETHING that gets better when you treat it like MCAS, and treating it like MCAS is low-risk, so!
