MDMP is for woke losers.
Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield might have resulted in a very silly question like "Are our major resupply facilities in range of their fires?" and then making decisions based on that information. But that's woke non-lethality bullshit, amirite, lads?
"The USS Abraham Lincoln wasn’t able to be resupplied because the U.S. Navy’s main resupply base in the Gulf of Oman was destroyed by Iranian strikes—a fact that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth chose not to make public, said David Rhode [natsec reporter for MS NOW]"

Every great film begins with a story. Mine began as a novel. I'm asking for your help to develop a script by a script writer for MDMP

I hate to say it but I feel like I've been pushed into a corner.

Deliberate, structured planning (I refuse to say MDMP) must've come to be seen as a bureaucratic obstacle or maybe for tactical operations only.

For anything short of deploying a BDE overseas or securing a built-up area, it seems

To put this in MDMP/TOC terms. Look at how fast/accurate your running estimates and battle tracking is when you can just watch someone.

And why I think we’ll we do mission command or have NCOs isn’t a perfect dodge of why we wouldn’t do this too

Of course there are extremely valid fears

Conceptually, we are super-easy to understand. Practically, there is no way. Like, "You're a commander with all the authority in the world over 3 subordinate commanders. Just order them to move and they'll move..." doesn't incorporate the mdmp that must occur at each sub-element and sub-sub-element.
I'm not super sure how you can. There's basic aspects of the military that don't translate well unless you experience them for yourself like how difficult it actually is to move X brigade to Y position or "how do I return fire at an adversary I can't see who is 1.5 miles away from me"

What this lady is saying is not a conclusion but a factor that should be considered from as many perspectives as possible.

I know it's trite but the only model I know of for analyzing a problem is the military decision-making process (MDMP) which helps you gather as many facts, 1/

That's a pretty big one (figuratively) to tour. So much information to take in for as long as it lasted.

I think it would be cool to re-plan and re-execute it with period-MTO&E and training, but with current-day planning/MDMP with 70yrs of lessons learned.

I mean, it's not the actual orders themselves, to be fair, just the control measures and almost all the other critical operational details of the orders.

That said, I'm not confident Pete could actually do MDMP anyway.

Do the three levels of war next and the MDMP. That'll do numbers on this website and really pull the takes.

Oh yeah. This screams squadron commander who knows his staff is bored and likely questioning the morality of their job and wants to keep them busy with professional development through MDMP.

The MDMP walkthrough thread we need.

Thanks, @nhledbetter.bsky.social
🧵: Last week I started with a weekly series and talked about my thoughts about the state and challenges of the military history field. Today I’m going to get back to what @brasidas.bsky.social initially mentioned that I reacted to–the “Annex B,” he intelligence annex to a military operations 1/
🧵Lately I've wanted to start some J/mil history threads because allegedly I do more than just teach, I'd like to contribute something besides snark, and doing so will hopefully motivate me to get back to regular researching. Luckily a convo with our favorite Spartan general gave me a spark. 1/

Highlights for me:

The Eternal Life of Goldman looks gorgeous, and I can't wait to try this game! The official announcement trailer does more justice for it than the Direct did.

This is the map I was looking for.

Commuter traffic, especially in corridors not well-served by BERy. The heaviest of these eventually were converted to rapid transit (BRB&L/Blue Line, Old Colony --> Red) plus the Highland Branch, but not the B&A.

Ukrainian teaching officers have successfully completed a training course with American instructors, focusing on maneuver warfare and rapid decision-making.
The course, which centered on the Military Decision Making Process (MDMP), took place at a military educational institution.

This has caused me more arguments than I care to name when I was conducting MDMP with various guard and reserve SMs who were also cops.

His chat with Hillary Putnam has several interesting aspects:
* Twice Magee tries to contrast science & religion, twice Putnam dodges it;
* Magee asks who, exactly, are philosophers of science doing their work for;
* Putnam is attuned to the import of computers.

A key point in this thread is how IPB is tied to MDMP (or MCPP for Marines) because IPB analyses the Mission Variables - Weather, Enemy, Terrain - to help the staff plan for a MISSION.

As an intelligence professional you often get asked "get me an IPB for Iran" and that's not possible (it's JIPOE).
what the S2 is doing during that “Mission Analysis” phase–and that’s IPB. Using a wide range of resources to include the ones handed down from higher in their intel estimate or Annex B, the S2 goes through 4 steps, seen in the 2nd picture here. 8/
