Just discovered this gem on writing retreats by the brilliant @mirya.bsky.social

One question she addresses is: how I can make my normal life like a writing retreat?

More of this please!

If you're into smart reflections on writing, give this a read. 👇🏽

MHAWS was so useful this week. I’ve been muttering “The BS will fill the space you give it” every hour for days. Thank @mirya.bsky.social!

#MHAWS basically got me through my PhD, so it seems only fitting that it should be my first Bluesky post 🙋🏽‍♀️

There were days where #MHAWS singlehandedly got me through graduate school.

"The worst part of doing any kind of public goods service in academia is not the labor, it is the jerks who won’t do the work but want to tell you how you are doing it wrong."

The way I feel this so deep in my bones. Thank you, @mirya.bsky.social, for MHAWS +. open.substack.com/pub/miryahol...

Squish was sad he wouldn’t be able to get any MHAWS swag at APSA, but @mirya.bsky.social had him covered!

Excited to have @mirya.bsky.social visiting us in Cologne today, talking about how men and women politicians strategically convey emotions in their social media use. In addition to her research, our women working group got a live session of MHAWS career advice! Thanks for coming!

Crashed their writing workshop (during the lunch break!) to say hello to two of my academic idols, @mirya.bsky.social and @cwolbrecht.bsky.social! We should have gotten a picture, but I did come away with some #MHAWS swag.

Forever grateful for their examples of lifting while climbing.

The latest #MHAWS may be my favorite to date. We need community now more than ever, and @mirya.bsky.social gives some 🔥 advice about how to build and sustain it. (Spoiler: It’s hard but SO WORTH IT.)

My CV mentions a “guest contributor” role on a specific #MHAWS Newsletter which if you look it up is a cocktail recipe.
August 19, 2025 at 1:03 AM
Pretty sure the answer is "have an awesome newsletter that gives practical and actionable advice for being awesome and winning!" Because I cite MHAWS all the time.

This installment of MHAWS is extra resonant for me as I come back to my faculty position after a year as a fellow at CTEC.

I actually love this idea. 🚕

I would volunteer as keeper of said meter and take it into every meeting and keep at tally.💸💸💸

(But seriously, WHERE can I get something like this?!?!

I feel it’s something Mirya Holman —is she on Bsky?— would suggest in her #MHAWS holiday gift guide)
I once (mostly in humour) suggested we set up a large taxi meter at the front of each meeting room and have the organiser calibrate it based on the aggregate salary per minute of the attendees, then start the meter once the meeting commenced

I want to write a book but I'm terrified and have been for awhile. I've been thinking a lot about taking the leap to book writing post-tenure. But I'm scared. Thankfully, @mirya.bsky.social has a perfect MHAWS newsletter today to inspire me! open.substack.com/pub/miryahol...

lol I was thinking the other day about how I never go to disciplinary conferences anymore, and therefore have missed out on all the MHAWS (and now RSC @rebekahtromble.bsky.social) swag

Is there an MHAWS about how you balance the number of articles you do when you're writing a book?

I need to blog again more consistently and then I’ll consider writing a newsletter. I love #MHAWS and learn so much from what you both write all the time.

Another amazing #MHAWS from @mirya.bsky.social today. So important to "find your people", I love my org econ community and can't imagine doing this work without them. Though sometimes I am tempted to impersonate a political scientist to show up at one of Mirya's happy hours or workshops. 🥸
