As someone who works at the intersection of both- (PhD in HEPEx, now general ML4Science research)- I think the big thing is just understanding use-cases. PINNs are really good at implicitly and approximately solving differential equations which are otherwise basically intractable.

What an original idea!

My spot on the list (even in the top 10) is probably not due to impact though, but because I work at the intersection of popular topics (stats, ML, deep learning, Bayes, ML4science) 😄
