I asked my class of 32 MLIS students who’d seen the new Nathan Fielder and I swear to you, I don’t think there was one unraised hand.

I'm now on Slotted! slotted.art/raesh

Very very new site, so I'm planting here for a test run. I like the format here better than VGen so I'd like to see this get more established. #art #commissions

Starting a nonprofit where middle-aged librarians can donate the cardigans that they can no longer wear because of peri/menopause, and the sweaters go to newly minted MLIS candidates. Needs a clever name though.

Hoo boy, Anne Carroll Moore

We spent a whole week each in the children's lit and children's services classes for my MLIS talking about her and her legacy in library science—for good and for ill

Watching The Haunting (1963) while doing MLIS reading/note-taking. One of my favorite spooky movies!

Listening to three incredible MLIS students presenting their social informatics research at the “We Can Only Become What We Imagine” session is giving me much needed confidence in the future of our profession. #NELA2026

MLIS is a great direction to go in and especially important now. Being an advocate activist adds extra dimensions to everything. An important aim for me is centring the lived experiences of people who seldom get opportunities to be listened to. Only just getting started, so a lot remains to be seen!

Hello, Im trying to work my way into MLIS. Im an advocate activist for many topics and have worked in multiple perspective settings....

Do you find people want to learn more? There are many perspectives, its never to late to explore the world you never knew existed :)

working on my MLIS competencies at this moment, which means I am continuously confronted with how society runs good complex information systems, and being furious we gave ours to the world’s biggest creeps and let them defund ours, because:
I will not forget that Zuckerberg and Facebook shut down the accounts of the most popular presidential candidate in one of the largest democracies in the world, and he was elected anyway

FWIW my MLIS thesis was on the popular portrayal of bibliomania in the medieval and renaissance periods, which was certainly a form of hoarding.
The stereotype - which may or may not have reflected reality - was the obsessive accumulation of books which were never read or even cared for

Best of luck with this decision, from someone who was juggling the same options 10+ yrs ago 🙏 I ended up doing a MA in East Asian Studies and then, somewhat randomly, an MLIS afterward. Back then, maybe still now(?), the MA-MLIS combination made one competitive for subject matter- and/or ...

...helping my daughter with undergrad applications and, being half Okinawa but not fully proficient in Japanese, her top choice is UH.

In short, FWIW, it sounds like you have two good options and can't really go wrong either way. (Except, I'm not sure how widespread MLIS studies are in Japan...)
