It actually works! Reads my old S900 disks, filter sounds good (pretty similar to the one on the MPC3000: not as good as the S900s, shitloads better than on later Akai samplers). Haven’t checked the CD-ROM drive or individual outs yet but it’s looking promising

When Roger Linn made the LinnDrum & the MPC60, he never imagined it would be utilized in the manner it was by Rap producers…
Then again, he was blind sided by how Prince used the LM-1 so rather than be appalled? He leaned into it when creating the MPC60 Mk II & MPC3000, which Dilla mastered.

It was a difficult process to transfer my usual way of working from an MPC3000 to the PC. The screen tempts you to construct music visually. While this certainly has advantages and expands the possibilities, you have to defend your sense of hearing.

I always thought A Made Up Sound / 2562 tracks were done on an MPC3000 or 2000….reading the blurb on his Bandcamp, it was a Korg ESX. If that’s anything like the ES-1, I’m extremely impressed by how he chopped up his samples on such a horrible UI

It was on long term loan from Teeba, he took it back during Covid, and now it needs a good service, along with his MPC3000 🤪 I’m using an Isla now.

Now I have to get into modular, it seems. I always wondered if the Akai MFC-42 analog filter was close to the 900/950 one, given that it was sort of marketed as something to be teamed up with the MPC3000
