Yep! It’s called an MSLT. And you need to do both the nighttime test and the daytime one the next morning to get diagnosed.

I had complained about excessive, intrusive daytime sleepiness since I was a child, to numerous doctors, for *decades*. It took saying the word “sleepy,” once, instead of “tired,” to a new doctor to describe my symptoms for her to refer to a sleep study and MSLT and get proper treatment.

I thought I failed my MSLT, that I didn’t sleep at all. And they were like, “Despite 8 hours of 98% efficiency the night before, you had a mean sleep latency of 1.5 minutes. You are functioning like a person who’s been tortured with sleep deprivation.”
When I had my first sleep study (before I was diagnosed with Narcrolepsy), I had a hypnogogic hallucination that there were fire alarms going off and that a tech came into the room and said, “There’s just a small fire down the hall, but nothing to worry about.” 😅

im trying 😭 but my sleep schedule is so different than the overnight sleep study that i couldnt get the required 6 hours of sleep before they woke me up in the morning, and they had to cancel the MSLT. even tho i had cataplexy right in front of the tech multiple times, its not good enough

I had 2 overnight sleep apnea tests before I finally got the second part of the MSLT and it took me totaling my car when I was soooo not sure I’ve got great advice there

You should! Even if it’s not narcolepsy, there are a lot of sleep disorders you can get help with after diagnosis from the MSLT.
It can be a 2-parter. You’ll sleep under observation one night and if you don’t test for sleep apnea, you’ll nap under observation throughout the next day.

he’s a pediatric doctor 😂 he saw me cuz he was seeing my kid.
Anyway I probably have #narcolepsy. I go in February for overnight and MSLT.

been 🥊 through life but i had a psych appt & i think we have a good setup. i’ll be taking adderall twice in a day for my sleepiness, and i have Another sleep test to take but this time i WILL take the MSLT to test for narcolepsy. we shall see.
