This is so fucking real. #disability #chronicillness
My favorite part of being chronically ill is feeling like a husk of a person while my bloodwork seems to think I am a bastion of perfect health 🫩🫩

If your doctor ever tells you it's all in your head, find a new doctor. Your symptoms matter. Your experience matters. Keep advocating for yourself.

Long COVID. Perimenopause. Traumatic brain injury.

Different conditions, same horror story: being told nothing is wrong because your tests are normal.

Normal tests don’t mean normal function.

Listen to patients. Believe their symptoms. Treat the person, not just test results.

Chronic illness acronyms: I propose normalizing GOMO (grief over missing out) instead of FOMO (fear of missing out).

Keep getting asked if I’m having FOMO but it’s really almost always grief.

Pros of my D&D game yesterday:
- FUN! 🥰

Cons of my D&D game yesterday:
- Was too excited, got no work done yesterday.
- Was supposed to be 3-4 hours. Went 5 hours.
- No breaks! 😱
- My chronic pain is angry at me today. 😭

"October slide" vs "October boost"

Changing seasons affect many people with Long COVID, myalgic encephalomyelitis, and other chronic illnesses, but not all in the same way.

@mileswgriffis.bsky.social chats with @lodrinkswater.bsky.social about her reporting that explores the real story behind the “October slide.”

taught another doctor how to pronounce "myalgic encephalomyelitis" today!

i like to think i'm contributing to medical providers' continuing education voluntarily! not because nobody knows, of course!

The mental load of managing a chronic condition is exhausting on its own. Appointments, medications, insurance calls, symptom tracking. It's basically a part-time job nobody signed up for.

Friendly reminder that comparing your health journey to someone else's helps nobody. Your timeline is your own. Your progress counts even when it's slow.
