Machinehood by @sbdivya.bsky.social, who I remember from work on @escapepod.org Not read it, looks to be one of those books that has grown more topical since publication

I just updated my profile. I try to keep it current with what I'm writing and reading.

I just started "Machinehood," but I'm excited about it. Lots of people have recommended it to me.

Lovely praise for my SF ELLIPSES novella from @sbdivya.bsky.social

"A lovely story of first contact that takes some unexpected twists and turns - full of lush biology, tense survival, empathy, and friendship."—S.B. Divya, award-winning author of RUNTIME, MACHINEHOOD, and MERU | LOKA (The Alloy Era)

I also highly recommend her book Machinehood for a more action oriented book on AI, the gig economy, and humanity's struggles to compete in that atmosphere.

Machinehood by S.B. Divya on audiobook. I'm about half through and it's been amazing so far. It's such a fleshed out and interesting world full of ideas.

Machinehood @sbdivya.bsky.social: Really enjoyed the futuristic concepts: gig economy pushed to the extreme, pills to make human labor competitive, machine-human body dynamics, immersive worldbuilding & thrilling suspense! The food was also lovingly described... mouthwatering! What a lovely read!

Here are some of my SF recs: Infomocracy by Malka Older, Machinehood SB Divya, most of SL Huang’s stuff (Zero Sum Game is fun)

Modern short fic definitely read Isabel J Kim

Nine Memorable Depictions of AI in Fiction
Humans have long been fascinated with consciousness. Before even coming close to fully understanding our own, we’ve devoted much of our imagination (and now resources) into creating it. This urge i…

The thing missing from Norbert's Cybernetics was a sense of humanity. He was drilled into machinehood as a Linguistic Amadeus and then married off to a nazi party member despite being Jewish himself.

He gave the world the conceptual equivalent of the nuclear bomb, intending it as a peacehead.

Two authors I admire:

@sbdivya.bsky.social writes fiction full of fascinating science, inventive worldbuilding, and compelling characters. (Machinehood, Meru, Loka)

@r-emrys.bsky.social for A Half-Built Garden, the novel full of much-needed hope that started my reading year on the right path.

In defense of sci-if writers, I’ll say I think this is 45% wanting to not confront consumers/keep the entertainment comfortable, and 65% a genuine curiosity about what an AI singularity might look like and how that would be received; is possible that machines may *one day* transcend “machinehood”?
The point isn't to make you sympathise with fucking machines it's for you to get entertainment out of exploring these themes without potentially ever confronting how you may recreate these bigotries in real life

Because-and it's cool I have to emphasise this in 2025-you can't be bigoted to machines

Responding to his own xcretion stating "Woke Nobel Committee must be destroyed! Only the Chauvinist Church of Machinehood should get the meaningless "Peace" Prize for proving wokeism is dead and snowflakes are losers by creating MachineGod88," Elon xcretes "Interesting!"
