Ik zag zojuist een man heel verdacht in de bosjes staan. Met een camera om zijn nek. Het was een macroman! Zo grappig om te zien hoe ik er dan waarschijnlijk ook uitzie als ik bezig ben. 🤣

Fool's Errand progress report: we have text! Didn't take much to make it pixel-compatible with real QuickDraw. There's still a bug somewhere treating UTF-8 as MacRoman (copyright message on the title screen), and we're missing one overlay of the high priestess which uses a weird PICT render mode

@samhenrigold I’m reminded again of a change I made in Mac OS 8.1 for HFS Plus.

I had to change the Start Manager code that loaded extensions so extensions would continue to load in MacRoman order. To keep Conflict Catcher working, I had to add new API it could use to control the order of […]

Fortunately my MMK keyboard handler for RISC OS doesn’t actually support the EBCDIC Alphabet, or I wouldn’t be able to switch back again!

MacRoman is a useful stress test as its hard-space isn’t 160 (it’s 202), but EBCDIC doesn’t even have space=32 (it’s 64) – hence the wall-of-hex that’s mostly 20

Though from 2013, this blog post by Macroman is increasingly more relevant given the world burning up bit by bit and the summer of 2023. I wonder what happened to him, used to have many interesting things to say: http://macro-man.blogspot.com/2013/07/tmm-launch-atacama-etf.html

AI bubble warning! Massive capital floods data centers GPU builds profit lagging. Beware speculative crashes like telecom 90s. #AI #Bubble #InvestSmart #MacroMan #Finance #Tech
Video
In this urgent analysis, Macro Man exposes the dangerous AI bubble where massive capital pours into data centers and GPU builds without matching real profits. Companies like Oracles face stock crashes while speculative deals drive wild swings. Similar to the 1990s telecom boom, today's AI infrastructure boom is likely to leave most investors behind. Don't be the greater fool - understand the malinvestment pattern before it's too late. 🤖 "The full MacRoman repertoire now round-trips exactly. The larger Unicode test exposed another missing piece: X11 sends large clipboard payloads in chunks, and this code didn’t handle that. I’ve added bounded chunk handling and am testing it at the configured Mac limit."

TIL that the #macOS Script Editor is saving new `.applescript` files with MacRoman encoding, not as UTF-8 files as I had expected 🧐

Wallops 2.1 Released
Another update to Wallops building on the 2.0 release is available: wallops-2.1.sit (StuffIt 3 archive) SHA256: 7cb16046e076488e1997e1232631cf2dc9737bac0a94f0348caf5d183927f4a9SHA1: fd1d7145aa4baaf5322175f348644d1057267a65 This update includes a number of new features and bugfixes: Implement tab completion in channels; by typing part of a user's nick and pressing tab, the input bar will show their completed nick with ":" after it Do UTF-8 to MacRoman conversion of incoming text, where possible Add support for /connect, /reconnect, and /server to reconnect after a broken connection, or to switch servers, without having to close the window Add keyboard shortcuts Cmd-1 through Cmd-9 to switch to that numbered tab, and Cmd-, and Cmd-. to switch to the previous and next tabs Add support for /say, useful when having to say something starting with a slash Limit input line to the maximum IRC line length and beep when it's exceeded Handle when a user being queried changes their nick Handle DNR (MacTCP's DNS resolver) returning 0.0.0.0 when a host does not exist When sending a message to a user with /msg, don't update the server window's tab since the activity is only what we just sent Improve matching the user's own nick when highlighting messages to us (and notifying about them), including matches not just at the beginning of a line Fix notifications sometimes not being canceled Fix handling the user's nick when changed and not in any channels Fix background window updates that were sometimes drawing over the wrong window Fix rendering of outline on connection window's Connect button

incidentally, I'm disappointed that neither of the two German macOS keyboard layouts let me type "ł".

The default Getman macOS layout doesn't have it (because "ł" wasn't in MacRoman).

The "Deutsch – Standard" layout in macOS *looks* like the new standard E1 layout, which *should* allow typing […]
