#MailStar
Well that does depend on the bike. I built a EAPC compliant eBike with a Pashley Pronto Mailstar, 2yrs later I replaced it with a factory built Pashley Pronto Go. Both look home built...

@2-wheeled-wolf.bsky.social, you know these things; do you recall offhand the length/number of links for an Elephant/Pronto/Mailstar chain.

You've reminded me that I have one broken spoke on the rear of Mailstar, and I've had a full set ready to do a rebuild for at least six months. On the list.

It's an Elephant Bike - a refurbished, ex-Royal Mail Pashley Mailstar.
(And I used to work for BT out of the Sloane/Belgravia exchange - same patch as your paper round.)

Keeping it to 5 is hard. What about the Raleigh Ultra Burner, the Pashley Mailstar…

How lovely are they! Result! Elephant have closed now have they, exhausted all the old mailstar bikes presumably?

Great to see an Elephant bike / Pashley Mailstar there.

I'm impressed. The gears are stuffed on mine at present so it's effectively a single speed, but even when running smoothly its a tad heavy for long rides involving anything hilly.

Love those mudflats - your Mailstar is looking good.

We should gather a gang of Mailstar / Elephant Bike riders sometime to enjoy seeing them en masse (as a herd?).

Ah, there we go. The spare lot for the mailstar *is* an XRD-5 😄🤷‍♂️
August 7, 2025 at 12:20 AM
I have a 5-speed #ElephantBike - I need to replace the gear cable; just been putting it off for an absolute *age* 😢

I also have a 3-speed mailstar (*not* reconditioned by the elephant folk) that's not-quite-right, & I have a replacement 5-speed gubbins for it too.

Watching with interest.

I bought the one on the right to replace the one on the left as cost to repair the frame wasn't economical. One on the left has been decommissioned, stripped down for parts & the frame & original wheels going to a charity to send to Africa for reuse.

Why I love the Pashley cargo bikes of the past & present. Formerly the Mailstar, now they're the Pronto.
July 7, 2026 at 10:10 AM
And that's the eCargo bike well & truly decommissioned, stripped down for spares & the frame & original wheels will be going to Re-Cycle.

After using an old Pashley Mailstar which I converted into an ebike & frame now failing. I've now just received a new Pashley Pronto Go which is a definite upgrade to the old Mailstar that will now be decommissioned.

Turned out a worthy investment to convert into an ebike & see if it works for me & my disability, unfortunately it has issues with the frame which would cost more than it's worth so have a new one on order that will be an upgrade to this one & I'll reuse what I can on the lowrider project &

The excitement when I started pedalling it exploded as it was like magic to find the perfectish bike. It gave me a better idea on what else to look for since & 2yrs ago I built my eCargo bike built from a Pashley Mailstar & soon to be upgraded with a newer model.
April 29, 2026 at 10:52 PM
Well it's close as an Elephant bike as you get with a Pashley Mailstar. Despite the damage, it got me home.
March 23, 2026 at 9:02 PM
Yeah, nice 5 speed hub gear I added recently after building it.
March 13, 2026 at 2:54 PM
Oh I have that ebook on wheelbuilding, very helpful too. Built a few wheels, latest was to fit a 5 speed hub gear into a Pashley Mailstar.
February 26, 2026 at 10:17 PM
I've had it almost 2yrs now. 😂 It's the Pashley Mailstar, now with a 5 speed hub.
January 19, 2026 at 10:36 PM
Seeing that Pashley is steel, their Mailstar/Pronto bikes are lovely to ride.
