Working on the clockwork Porter S gauge locomotive still. I got the loco running but it was way too fast, throwing itself off the track. So I've build a little "timing box" that is a bunch of gears to create resistance, now the loco is running a lot slower than it was before. #modelrailroad

It messes with the automatic works, the weight that swings around inside the watch to keep the mainspring wound, for sure. Automatic watches can still be manually wound with no real impact on their accuracy, but manuals like the Speedmaster are built for that.

It clears things up considerably to understand racism as the mainspring of conservatism going back at least to Goldwater.
I get that Erick Erickson has never been a big MAGA guy, but to see this bit from him about what American conservatism is in 2026 was genuinely shocking to me.
