Just a reminder that it's super illegal to go to your local library, rent a dvd or blu ray, and rip it with makemkv or handbrake to have a drm free copy of a movie or tv series
Fun reminder - in two weeks Sony is going to delist 500+ digital movies. If you bought one, they’re going to vanish from your library too. Oh, and no refunds, you didn’t actually own them in the first place

I would never recommend ripping dvd using makemkv and then turning it into a usable file via handbrake

wound up using MakeMKV which worked great (and then shutter encoder to rewrap the mkv to mp4). Thank you to everyone who chimed in with tips!

Today on Sailor Moon, we have high quality rips of the DiC DVDs! These were ripped using MakeMKV and are uncompressed files, meaning they’re ~1GB per episode. I'll look at uploading ISOs soon. Enjoy!

I do not, despite the fact that handbrake appears to work consistently for me - if it's any help at all I rip the dvd/bluray to my hard drive first using makemkv, then use handbrake on that file. [For format-shifting to my personal Plex server, obvs]

MakeMKV, a good sized NAS, and Emby means I don't need to worry about paying for streaming services.

This won’t fix this problem, but it may help you down the line: get a USB 4k drive and rip/backup, all of your DVDs and Blu-ray disks. Jellyfin is free and network storage is affordable.

Hundreds of your Warner Bros DVDs probably don't work anymore; UPDATED with response from WB
Due to the way WB manufactured their DVDs, virtually all discs pressed between 2006-8 are unplayable now.

AHH VLC - what heroes! Along with Audacity, EAC, MakeMKV - brings me back to the good old days, when we helped each other. Must drop them a few €, along with Wikipedia - imagine if they disappeared and we were left with the AI slop and hallucinations?

i use MakeMKV since it's free for dvds, and you can do blu-rays with temporary key on their forum! makemkv.com
