The joys of illustrated manuscripts
I understand the excitement about technology “rediscovering lost texts.” I do, & I get the media hype.
But I wish people knew that there are hundreds of thousands of “lost” texts just sitting in manuscripts in libraries, which have never been published outside of those single manuscripts. 1/n

This may not make a huge difference to most people, but I do think it's important to state that writing on the Herculaneum scroll hasn't been revealed; deposits on the scroll have been revealed, and we now have a probabalistic rendering of the words most likely represented by those deposits.

Even worse, it looks like this account was a bait and switch - they used to be an "80's lit crit" account, and made the change once they had an audience and had been included in several starter packs.
