#MarcEdit
Can DuckDB handle MARC21 records faster than MarcEdit? Scope MARC edits and offload demand on proprietary ILSs? Serve as a FOLIO connector? Built an open source Community Extension w/ Claude to test. Cataloging/Metadata Librarians welcomed as contributors/co-maintainers.

There’s a lot of love for MARCedit in this room. In this case creating .mrc files from DOAB data

Why would you add an ai plug-in to MarcEdit
March 11, 2026 at 2:18 PM
Today in #metadata librarian land. I love it when MarcEdit saves me. I was toodling out a lil python script and remembered the MarcMerge. Did my task licksplittedly. I like programming but I like out of the box solutions way more.

Listening to Bo Burnham’s Inside while doing some work with MarcEdit this morning. “How the World Works” hits a lot harder now than it did in 2021.

finally got my shit figured out on MarcEdit. These tools honestly seem every bit as powerful as what BTCat was offering, just with the caveat that you don't have someone on hand to code it for you lol.

nooooo, stoooop, don't delete the punctuation from my 245! that's bad! bad marcedit!

MarcEdit doesn't really do macros, it does task lists

Currently bashing my head against MarcEdit trying to give it macros without knowing how to write actual macros. Waiting on a reissue Star Convoy I ordered while hoping no one needs to look at my bank account soon. Pooping a lot cause I ate too much lasagna this weekend. How’s your life going?

I vented on reddit and someone there also pointed me to marcedit. Marcedit 6 is what's installed on my station and I found it pretty counter-intuitive, but I'll give 7 a try.

Do you use MarcEdit at all?

I mean, Polaris is definitely not great but sometimes it's easier to make changes in MarcEdit and reupload the records

A thread 🧵from today's @cilipmdg.bsky.social Practical Cataloguing webinar on MARC data cleaning using Python.

A way to identify errors/inconsistencies in legacy metadata & automate specific clean-up actions. - A bit like running a MarcEdit Tasklist or an Alma Normalization Rule on a set of records
Today's Practical Cataloguing webinar is on "Enhancing metadata quality : a practical introduction to #MARC data cleaning using #Python and #RDA principles" with Dalia Kbar, Collection Development Librarian at the American University in Dubai.

I thought i was going to pull my hair out trying to figure out #MarcEdit. Thank goodness I was able to submit my #LJA assignment on time, thanks to the detailed lesson and readings from my instructor, Natalie Hall.

do I have any (rare book) librarian colleagues who frequently use MARCEdit when doing some cataloging, esp. the Merge Record function? I'm having a technical issue I'd love to solve regarding MARCEdit adding additional \ marks to OCN/OCM/ON numbers that it thinks are too short when merging records!

With update to Win 11 I had to install a new instance of MarcEdit. The Z39.50 config for Alma is an effing PITA that took me forever to get working on Win 10. The same config is not working on my new instance and I want to scream.

MarcEdit can do this for you! It can connect to RDA vocabularies and Library of Congress authorities id.loc.gov

today in #metadata #librarian land: I spent it all in xslt land. DSpace output is kind of crap. Alma transforms are crap. MarcEdit helps a lot but can only do so much when things like dc:contributor AREN'T INCLUDED in the MODS output. It's Friday eob and I'm calling it beer o'clock.
