I feel like Bobo the Cat is the one I’ve seen that actually thought about that. It calls itself a “Marioid” because it combines traditional platforming with Metroid stuff but doesn’t use the Castlevania parts of metroidvania. So yeah why would it use the “vania” half of the word?
