A big rest in peace to the wonderful Marjoe Gortner. Such an energetic actor in so many interesting films, several becoming instant faves for me, but you gotta see the documentary MARJOE, where he unravels the evangelist scam he was raised in. Talk about life well and fully lived!

Farewell to Marjoe Gortner (1944-2026) who used an Oscar-winning documentary about his life as a bogus Pentecostal preacher to launch a long and varied acting career.

Apparently Marjoe Gortner died a couple days ago, according to Wikipedia, though there are no news articles about it. From a child preacher to an absolutely unhinged villain in Earthquake to the Luke Skywalker to Hasselhoff's Han Solo in Starcrash, Marjoe had a fascinating life.

Marjoe Gortner died. If anyone here hasn't seen the documentary Marjoe, I cannot recommend it highly enough. Basically, Marjoe was a child preacher who ended up becoming disillusioned with the obvious grift, so he did one final tour with a documentary crew to completely expose everything.

Marjoe Gortner was a truly fascinating person. Raised in the world of evangelical grift, in his 20s he fully and publicly rejected his past and became an actor. MARJOE (1972) is a must-see documentary - and it's currently on Tubi. tubitv.com/movies/31254...

RIP.
