I emailed IBO in April that their markscheme answer to one of their exam questions was possibly incorrect because I kept getting a different answer when I did the problem myself. They are just getting back to me now (today in July) confirming that my answer was correct and the markscheme was wrong.🫠

1/1.25 is not a value. It's a calculation with incomplete processing. A fraction can't be anything other than integer/integer. And the markscheme is clear that o.e. is not acceptable, so no mark.

I've just resigned from marking. 20 yrs teaching, experienced marker. The standard for top marks is ludicrous, the application of the markscheme inconsistent. Too stressful.

I've checked for Edexcel - 2024 back to the start
No markscheme penalises for use of the same letter
They all need to see N(a,b) or B(a,b) but no mention of initial letter at all
I agree I would scribble all over their work, but we can't deduct a mark

Oh yes. As someone who’s done some exam moderation, I guarantee it is just bad wording. English is often ambiguous. This is fun for English teachers and a total nightmare for science and maths teachers. HOPEFULLY the markscheme says:

Thing is, if it's that brilliant a challenge, writing a valid and reliable markscheme is going to be a challenge, too. And I'd GUESS the markscheme gets written BEFORE examiners see all the different offerings. And there'll be some excellent offerings that the markscheme people haven't thought of.

I used chat GTP to write some model answers to a long answer question the other day by giving it the question and the markscheme and asking for how many marks I wanted each answer to be. Made for a good reflective activity with my year 10s. #chatbiology

I would much prefer harder exams and more lenient markscheme. Maths should be about creativity and understanding not fussiness about insufficient evidence. Edexcel and AQA seem similar in this regard in my experience

Used to back in the 90s for Avery Hill GCSE. Worked well. Something on tropical rainforests. No idea if I have the markscheme. We got cover for the people assessing though, so I imagine that may be a problem these days

It's all very well AQA accepting "ha oído..." instead of "ha oído decir..."
But meanwhile my students who knew "ha oído" wasn't quite right, and tried to make "ha oído hablar" fit, got it wrong.
