Curious about what is included in VAMP, the Virtual Australian Museum of #Palaeontology? Strengths in #tracefossils, #marsupials and #fish, but a bunch of other cool stuff too!

Marsupials aren't made up. But the concept of one is. Same with the concept of male and female.

Fun fact!

Animals like the koala, and the kangaroo are marsupials!

And they're called marsupials because they all have a strict diet of soup!

The mothers naturally produce the soup in their pouches daily, and can consist of different flavors depending on what's available in the area!

Interesting to explore the change from laying an egg to retaining the “egg” inside.

Dunno what happened with the marsupials - hatching egg way too soon…storage problem.

(as far as I know bifurcated/double uterus and vagina is a common feature for marsupials, so I guess the taxonomy guys dissected opossum reproductive tracts first and figured it was diagnostic of the family, and only then got around to looking at koalas and wallabies etc.)

I learned many things about primordial pouches today and need more sports teams to take on animal facts. One of y'all gotta know SOMETHING about marsupials.
