In the build up to Operation Compass the R.E. Workshops managed to construct a remarkable 88 dummy tanks in 36 continuous hours.
They were transported out on 8 30CWT lorries.

Okay. So what I am looking at is that the British estimated that wells and aqueducts between Matruh and El Daba were good for 550m3/day of water, with three of these (Matruh 200/Baguch 150/Burbeita 110) delivering 460, and the closest at El Daba 80. 1/2

The Germans boarded the trawler, taking various things, including all the sea-boots they could find, and then set charges which sank the trawler after five minutes. The skipper was then returned to his boat, safely reaching Mersah Matruh with all his crew a few hours later. [4/4] #WW1 #NavalHistory

Early on 30 Sept, off Ras-el-Rhum, a U-boat surfaced nearby and opened fire with her deck gun. The trawler, despite barely being able to manoeuvre, returned fire but her shots fell short. [2/4]

85 years ago today on 4th June 1941 in Egypt 7 RTR's Matildas arrived by rail in Matruh. As they were unloading one tank ran over the CO's foot (Lt Col Jerram) and he was evacuated to the Advanced Dressing Station.
