The colossal - 2.5 m - marble head of Constantine, known as the Statua Colossale di Costantino I.

It formed part of a monumental seated statue, estimated to be 12 m tall, originally situated in an apse of the Basilica of Maxentius in the Forum Romanum.

These photos show the interior of the mausoleum of Romulus, son of Roman emperor, Maxentius. He died in AD 309. It is located in the Maxentian imperial complex and faces the Appian way. The imperial palace and circus also survive in a ruined state.

Colossal bronze head of Emperor #Constantine, probably cast soon after his death (AD 337).
On 28th Oct., AD 312, he defeated Maxentius at Rome’s Milvian Bridge, after a ‘vision’ of the #ChiRho persuaded him to fight under the Christian god’s symbol. Despite later reversals, #Christianity grew.
