I’m like Pa Kent in Superman, when it comes to some stories. On day 19 of the #August_coverartchallenge25 a story that gave me an emotional response was MAZEBOOK by @jefflemire171.bsky.social . A broken man who lost everything when his daughter disappeared sees her in dreams trapped in a maze. 🥺😢😭😱🤯

I picked this read from one of these Classics-you-may-have-missed lists. Hoo-boy, Mazebook is riveting and honest and slightly supernatural. Jeff Lemire’s art floored me more than once. If you have missed it yourself, give this graphic novel a try.

Had some fantastic gifts from this years bromas with @joebiwan94.bsky.social and @classicxbooks.bsky.social last Saturday. The Cap and DD from my boys are from two runs in comics that mean the world to me and finding Mazebook and Dagan were just icing on the cake that was a much needed great day.

So today I started reading another Jeff Lemire book, and while not having the emotional depth of Mazebook and Roughneck (yet, at least), or the deliciously horrifying tone and mood of Gideon Falls, it's still a banger... (it's Phantom Road, just don't have a picture and I'm too lazy to take one)

This is terribly immodest of me because my work was so amateurish, but @jefflemire171.bsky.social's excellent MAZEBOOK reminded me a lot of my first short film, NARCOSE, which I shot almost 30 years ago. The short is about a man's quest for the center of a maze in an empty city... 🌀
