For context on the Venetian lagoon: the cathedral on Torcello preserves a foundation inscription dated to 639 CE, among the earliest firm evidence for settlement there, so early medieval churches around the lagoon fit a long story.

St Catherine's Hill has another feature: the Mizmaze, a turf-cut maze on the summit. Its date is uncertain, though a medieval origin is often suggested, and only a handful of historic turf mazes survive in England.

Decent way to spend a day off, that. What's the medieval horror one called? Drawing can wait till you've had a kip.

I feel like if someone started a fundy protestant denomination where they decorated the churchs like Medieval Times restaurants, wore liturgical vestments, and an adopted ecclesiastical Latin terminology it would be a hit with this crowd and I don't get why none have tried it.

At Medieval Times, a dinner-theater kingdom faces a reckoning.

Alessandra Schade spent months reporting on the people who worked inside the popular themed restaurant, and what she found was lawsuits, allegations of sexual harassment, and more.

Fantasy coins also have the fingerprints of D&D on them. A world in which murderhobos can travel with a sack of gold coins to buy whatever supplies they need when they stop at a village reflects the American imagination much more than the medieval world of either history or myth.
That sure does make some things snap into place

Indeed, the idea that a Tolkien-ish medieval fantasy society would rely so much on money is itself weird and interesting. Most people in most real feudal societies barely handle money at all.

You mint round coins with embossed faces because it’s easy to do with medieval technology.

How and why would a medieval-ish fantasy society create these more elaborately shaped coins? Magic?

Always love the idea of artists making stamp stickers. Could print them out on the sheet, take a roll whole puncher down the middle of each, and then cut them out… your medieval tapestry characters would be great

Not me using ISO-SPLIT to sort spike snippets from single tungsten wires recorded in the medieval times of my postdoc when disk space prevented us from fully streaming all signals at 24kHz and now thinking about the months of my life lost to manual spike sorting.

Pendragon fast forwards the entirety of Medieval advancement from 1000 to 1500 over the course of the Arthurian cycle, and that's what the charts showed. Hopefully we'll see some version of that again in the future, with the gorgeous art & graphic design of the current edition.
