An early medieval shield made of alder wood. From Trossingen, dating 580 AD. The iron shield boss and the original covering with rawhide have not survived.

listen not gonna tag OP because (a) the post is kind of funny, and (b) it's also clearly trolling to try to poke old medievaltwitter into overreacting

but also half of Americans just elected a guy they think is a god-king who's asked people to take horse paste and inject bleach to kill a disease

I helped beta read this, and it's a fantastic book about a battle badly neglected by English language scholarship.

Throwing the #earlymodern hashtag onto this. What the Bleusky version of #medievaltwitter?
The premodern world held possibilities and imagined futures: the physical and metaphysical systems that were actively built and contested then continue to inform the world in the present.

all these republicans insisting “mike waltz is an amazing man & I support him 🫡” are reminding me of when mro of medievaltwitter doxxed me & people got mad at her for it so her friends wrote a petition about how she’s “a role model for all scholars” lol

After meeting a bunch of deadlines, I’m glad to finally have a chance to properly begin leafing my way through @alexharvv.bsky.social’s wonderful A-Z guide on the lesser known kingdoms of early medieval Britain, which strikes the perfect balance between erudite yet accessible & fun. #medievaltwitter

Pour one out for the #MedievalTwitter of yore, and spill the tea on what comes next, for medievalism online, medieval studies, and Arc. @aspencerhall.bsky.social

I think it is very hard to parse if you haven’t been engaged with medievaltwitter brain rot since the early 2020s, it boils down to a disciplinary turf war over whether anyone “owns” working on premodern racialization. But yes, absolutely to the second bit.

Endless thanks to everyone who turned up for tonight's launch! For a decade, these have been thoughts pinballing round my bodymind, and to have people respond with such engagement and analytical curiosity is the overwhelming in the best of ways 💜
