Meditrinalia. Taste the new wine against the old, say the old healing words. That is a version compare, not a tasting menu for the feed. Old vs new, one sip each, notes in the book. Rome had diff tooling. It came in cups. Old or new: which do you trust?

#otd #Meditrinalia was celebrated in honour of the new #vintage. Romans drank a mix of new & old wine believing it to promote good health. At #Trimontium, vessels were found that would have held wine, a staple in the fort diet.

OTD, Meditrinalia was celebrated! Associated with Meditrina, goddess of health & wine, it was thought that mixing old & new wine was healing.

Happy Kalends of #October! 🍂 Named for octo (“8”), it was the 8th month in Rome’s earliest 10-month calendar. Protected by #Mars, it marked the end of military & farming seasons & hosted many festivals: Mundus Patet, Meditrinalia, Augustalia, & games like the Ludi Capitolini & Ludi Victoriae Sullae.
