#Medspas
Speaking as someone who, just yesterday, had to go to the ER for dehydration because my intestines aren’t working, please do not allow non-medically credentialed people inject you with anything.

Medspas have actually killed people with IV drips. Watch the John Oliver episode on medspas.

(Related: the "plastic surgery is never feminist" take that's circulating again, this time with young thin feminists, few of whom mention the compulsory thinness/beauty standards they embody, presumably absent surgery/medspas. Why examine power structures when you can just judge other individuals?)

Well not yet, anyway. They probably will soon if they keep going to medspas!

3/4 🏥 MedSpas & regulation

Healthcare vs wellness is like butt-dial vs booty-call—similar words, different meanings.

MedSpas growing due to access and social media pressures; oversight varies.

BLUF: check clinician oversight, supply sourcing, and compliance w/ health depts before needles.

1/ Medspas are everywhere right now, but a recent NYC investigation found serious health and safety violations at multiple locations. As we head into the holidays, here’s what to know about medspas along with the rest of this week’s New York #publichealth news 👇

It’s kind of grim how many ads for medspas you can see these days proudly advertising that they don’t work with insurance so they’re not “restricted by it”.

2/ I feel like I'm seeing medspas everywhere. For anyone who doesn't know, Medspas kind of look like day spas, but offer medical procedures like Botox, fillers, or IV drips. Unfortunately, an NYC investigation into 15 flagged medspas found widespread licensing and sanitation violations.

Can confirm, MedSpas are super sketchy because unregulated. One of my clients has been tracking incidents. Non-sterile, bacteria, unsafe sourcing—you don’t want to take the chance of any of that going directly into your bloodstream. Concerned bc IV fluids help a lot of people with chronic conditions

kylie jenner seems like a nice young woman... but it's crazy that as a literal teenager she singlehandedly changed beauty standards for american women. and made billions of dollars for herself and medspas and now every celebrity and influencer looks insane.

Most Americans might not have plastic surgeons to hit up for weight loss concerns.

But they do enjoy unfettered access to telehealth companies and medspas that offer GLP-1s in abundance.
Everyone’s on GLP-1s. But at what cost?
As compounded versions proliferate, reports of eating disorders and adolescent use are on the rise.

If we can have MedSpas, why can’t we have MedNaps where we get into our jammies and have an anesthesiologist help us take a nice propofol nap?

Over at the other side, we appear to have a significant glp1ra med (e.g. Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegony) backlash by the same people who want to replace the high fructose corn syrup calories in sodas with sugar cane. Really bizarre, or is it just the same old grift by the lifestyle hawks with medspas?

Yes and I also think there's something happening here with the rise of medspas, the makeup of the older millenial demo, and marketing ppl going, "what can we sell them when they come in to buy their next round of glp1."
