He was influential in many ways. my students loved his shadow banking work, clearer than the mainstream stuff.
My contributions on critical macro finance drew on (and often against) the money view.
RIP Perry. Hope there are balance sheets where you went.

Yesterday, as I was quoting him, Perry Mehrling passed, unexpectedly.
The loss.
So please take any of these books, or the New Lombard Street, and let yourself carry by his unique voice and writing style

What Perry wrote of Kindleberger is equally true of himself. He “was never content just to satisfy his own curiosity. He wanted to tell others so that they could use this new knowledge – indeed, he felt a positive duty to do so”

He liked to write short books, not long ones. "People don't finish reading long books," he would say. He wanted readers to finish his books.
Perry wasn't done. Let's keep it going.

A truly great scholar. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, loved ones, and everyone in my network who had the privilege of knowing him better than I did.
