I will read, share, and treasure every big tribute or little anecdote people share about Perry. Here's Adam Tooze's:

“As Mehrling makes brilliantly clear, #Kindleberger, like #Minsky, held fast to the obvious fact that #money mattered. And it mattered not just nationally. Through the channels of #global #capitalism, it mattered globally.” adamtooze.substack.com/p/chartbook-...

It would offend us if you thought we *were* Perry Mehrling.

You can still confront his view directly by engaging with his writing and his recorded talks/lectures.

And I hope you do.

Moving. Thanks for sharing.

Just to add to this: at a meeting in Berlin on Money last Saturday, I was asked who was most influential for your own thinking about money - without missing a beat I said Perry Mehrling. I had no idea that he was in coma as I was talking about him and his work.

The Death of Three Recent Giants: Lord Robert Skidelsky, Anwar Shaikh and Perry Mehrling
This year has been a difficult year for one of the corners of my world. It’s hard to even exactly describe what this corner is. The best way I can find to describe Lord Robert Skidelsky, Anwar Shaikh and Perry Mehrling is through a contradiction: they were all influential

This is probably the most personal piece about my intellectual journey I've written. I hope others enjoy it.

I couldn't stop thinking about Perry's death, and there have been other important deaths this year. So I'm working on a piece tonight about all three people I've been thinking about. Already have 2500 words. Should be out in the morning.

Is this from Mehrling? I could swear nearly the same paragraph, in any case the same sentiment, is in Groys's The Communist Postscript (also a very interesting little book).

A lot of my disagreements with Perry Mehrling were about the international currency hierarchy. Topics I wanted to eventually cover that would be both expansions and critiques of his work focused on

1) multinational banks as intraday multicurrency clearers & dealers

Perry Mehrling died from "injuries sustained in a fall"?! This is just UNBELIEVABLE. Genuinely unfathomable and awful. (and scary, since I write about money and my balance isn't very good)

oh no rip :( I followed his course on the economics of money and banking in the early days of the first lockdown and I can't recommend it enough for anyone interested in the nuts and bolts of finance, monetary policy and central banking. It looks like the entire MOOC is now available on youtube:

Such terrible terrible news that Perry Mehrling has passed. Hard to describe how much he taught us all. And such a wonderfully curious interlocutor.

I recently returned to his brilliant & mischievous "Financialization and its discontents". Great primer. sites.bu.edu/perry/files/...

I audited Perry's class at Barnard ages ago, and later he kindly accepted to sit in my thesis committee.

Perry was as sharp in his comments as benevolent, atypical among economists.

It is very sad news indeed.

Doing Perry Mehrling's online course on money and banking, in covid lockdown together with online friends from econ twitter, changed my life and shaped my intellectual trajectory like little else. A tragic loss, rest in peace.

I can't think of a better homage to Mehrling than continuing his way of learning and teaching money, combining theory, institutional knowledge, history of thought & financial history, to find intellectual ancestors of the Money View and push it further.

No one better than Iñaki to start the journey
By a weird coincidence this just came out, as scheduled for the past weeks.
I managed to squeeze a mention to Perry’s passing and a dedication at the end of the acknowledgment note in the cover page right before it was scheduled to come out. A tiny homage.
