yeah that’s nonsense! the etymology is very straightforwardly a borrowing from Chinese, Miguk is just a koreanization of Meiguo. the name is attested in Korean from 1882 using the “beautiful” character.

Chinese doesn't even attempt to do loanwords so the USA is "Beautiful Country" (Meiguo) and England is "Heroic Country" (Yingguo)
