When Michigan libraries don't have the materials a patron needs, they often turn to MeLCat, a statewide system for sharing resources! But federal funding cuts could put the system at risk: www.northernexpress.com/news/feature...

dont' fuck with MeLcat.
1) The Michigan Electronic Library (MeL and MeLcat) - a centralized catalog and resource-sharing service created to lend and share materials among all types of libraries in Michigan will cease to exist if this funding and agency are dismantled. 2/xx

Service has been restored to all AADL locations!

MeLCat and Libby are back up and running as well.

Thank you for your patience and understanding!

DOGE raided IMLS offices this morning. I'm currently in a staff meeting listening to the devastating impacts these cuts will have to individual libraries, as well as our state library (MeLCat, which supports our ILL services).

Guess who stopped by YDL this week to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Michigan eLibrary? It's Mittens, the MeLCat mascot! 🐾

Mittens is traveling throughout Michigan all summer long to celebrate MeL (but he already told us YDL is his favorite Michigan library 🤫).

Look who's here — Mittens from #MeLCat! 🐾

#MittensLovesMeLCat and is helping celebrate 20 years of MeLCat and we're so excited he visited!

Thanks for stopping by, Mittens! Safe travels on your next library adventure! 💚

We love that you love MelCat! Keep advocating!
I LOVE our inter-library loan system, and use MelCat for research for all of my books. Proudly part of the 1 million books checked out through MelCat last year. www.tadl.org/imlsfunding @milibraries.bsky.social

I never cease to be amazed by the American library system: thanks to MeLCat (the Michigan eLibrary Catalogue system) and interlibrary loan, it is actually much easier for me to access most Brazilian books (except new releases) here than in Brazil. Thanks, librarians!

Melcat and way more. Damn.

Moments after seeing the news about the cuts Tr*mp wants to make, I saw a post about an upcoming basic needs fair at the Flint library.

Libraries are vitally important.
What is at stake if IMLS is defunded and dismantled from a Michigan perspective? 1/xx

The current administration is attempting to dismantle the IMLS—the only federal agency dedicated to funding library services. These library services in Michigan are now at risk.

Me when my library doesn’t have the book: Fine. I’ll ask the entire state. (LOOK at all of those libraries!)

With the Michigan eLibrary Catalog, you can search collections of participating libraries in Michigan & request materials be delivered to your home library.

I'm actually working at the library today. In the first two hours we've helped patrons use the computer, order books via MelCat (our state-wide, interlibrary loan service) and get seeds for a garden. And we're in a town so small there is no stoplight nor fast food. Libraries are VITAL!

Btw if any local folks use Melcat, I would like to warn y'all against transporting books from the Genesee District Library system. I checked out the Lost Subways of North America from them and it came with a free side of baby roaches living in the book 🤢
