She's a survivor.

Female Red-breasted Merganser with a broken beak. I think this might be the same one that was in Belmont Harbor last year as well. She's a bit ostracized by the other Mergs and often sits or stand on ice ( a bit unusual for Mergs ) but otherwise seems to be okay.

Perfect conditions at Loch Ryan this morning. Great birding including 383 Scaup, 45 Black Guillemot, 25 Red-throated Diver, 11 Slavs, 49 Rb Mergs, 120 P-b Brents, 2 L-t Duck, Greenshank, 2 GN Diver. 3 Pochard at Loch Connell

Today like most days I went birding . Over the years on my birthday I’ve seen some great birds and despite the cool weather today was very enjoyable with @gnhbirder66.bsky.social . LRP,Red Kite, RNGrebe, Sand Martins, Meds, Water Pipits, Mergs, Peregrine, Great Egrets, Ruff.

Wildfowl yday with Goosanders, Mergs, Goldeneye etc. A small influx of thrushes including Redwing & Fieldfare & a very few Brambling, Siskin, Redpoll. Snow Bunting & Purple Sand returned. Crossbills at the weekend. Good nos of Rock Pipit. Hummingbird Hawkmoth garden 3 times last week

Portland Castle: the closest Goosander I've ever seen, down to 1 foot off the shoreline! Flyby Kingfisher and Little Egret. Manic feeding flock of ~30 Cormorant (and a few Shag) also coming very close. 15+ Mergs more distant.
