Thank you to everyone who joined me for town halls in Yamhill, Polk, and Marion counties! Hearing directly from Oregonians is hugely important to the work I do on behalf of our state in Washington, D.C.

Big thanks to everyone who joined me for town hall conversations in Umatilla, Morrow, and Wheeler counties. Hearing firsthand about the challenges folks face and their ideas for our state and our country shapes the work I do in the Senate.

merkley’s no slouch, either, even though he’s not quite as loud
I will never stop banging on this drum; Wyden is one of the best Senators in the chamber. It's really unfortunate he doesn't have the kind of national profile people like Warren or Booker do.

To be fair, Gillibrand co-sponsored Merkley’s bill barring officials—and their families—from issuing crypto. Then she co-authored the GENIUS Act, crypto industry-backed and without serious anti-corruption measures, and passed it over Merkley’s opposition—he called it a “rubberstamp” for corruption.
A 22-year-old just got a $30 million investment valuing his new futures exchange at $300 million.

He graduated Stanford, wrote for Thiel's Stanford Review, interned at Andreessen Horowitz.

His mom? Pro-crypto Sen. Gillibrand, D-NY.

Bipartisan capture in full bloom.

Great to meet with folks in Baker, Union, and Wallowa counties for town hall conversations! The ideas that folks bring to these meetings are critical to shaping my work on behalf of our state in the U.S. Senate.

Senate Republicans blocked Senator Merkley's amendment to prevent officials from selling access and enriching themselves with crypto schemes.

They're very busy cutting health care to pay for billionaire tax cuts, but still found time to protect the Trump family's corruption. Outrageous.

Thank you to everyone who came out to share your thoughts with me about how we can work together to strengthen communities across Oregon and our country during town halls in Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson counties!

it’s low-key because merkley’s a low-key guy, it’s a thing i appreciate about him as a senator
It feels unfair that to break the record *for an Oregonian specifically*, Merkley is going to have to give a longer speech than one that set the overall record when it was given.

(Also this whole Merkley episode has been weirdly low-key by marathon speech standards and I'm not really sure why.)
#Senate floor update:
@SenJeffMerkley (D-OR) began speaking at 6:21 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

At 3:21 p.m., he has held the floor for twenty-one hours. Senator Wayne Morse (Ind-OR) holds the record for the longest floor speech for Oregon Senators at 22 hours and 26 minutes.

wyden should have voted no, at least he wasn’t a yes. glad to see merkley’s name isn’t here.
The Cornyn amendment expanding mandatory detention passed 70-25. 49 GOP yays, 21 Dem yays, 25 Dem nos, 0 GOP nos.

Ron Wyden did not vote.

Thank you to everyone who came out to my town halls in Lincoln, Tillamook, and Clatsop counties on Saturday. Hearing directly from Oregonians about their ideas for making our state and our country a better place is crucial to the work I do in Congress.

Sen. Jeff Merkley is holding the Senate floor tonight for We the People.

While Trump turns our democracy into a dictatorship, Merkley's standing tall and saying what millions of us feel:
HELL NO.

Power belongs to the people, not to one man.

I like Sen. Jeff Merkley's suggestion to House Leader Mike Johnson of.... Why don't you just hand the gavel over to Elon Musk?
December 19, 2024 at 2:14 PM
with my own state, Wyden's great on everything but Israel on which he's miserable. Merkley's pretty good but irreplacable? I don't think so.

President Trump & his family are making millions off their crypto assets & using the White House to do it.

The President should not be scamming Americans by promoting crypto to make himself richer.

We need to pass Sen. Merkley's End Crypto Corruption Act NOW.

All of Wyden and Merkley’s lines are busy/full, but I got through to Bonamici’s staff, gave my POV as someone with two decades in data and tech, and urged emergency obstruction measures with ref to Wired reporting. 5Calls.org has scripts if you need them.

if there were any justice in the world they'd pass Merkley's bill when they reconvene this afternoon

OK, the congressional switchboard is really busy today but keep calling, after three hours. I finally got through and I was able to speak with Senator Jeff Merkley's aid. The Senator is going to be speaking at a press conference later today. I am looking forward to hearing what he has to say.
