Neurotoxicity is definitely an issue for cefepime.
But I find it to be very rare among patients with normal renal function and no prior seizure-predisposing conditions.
This association was already established in previous metaanalyses 🧵(2/5)

#IDSky Do you use antibiotics to prophylax in case of variceal bleeding? The Sanford Guide says yes, Cochrane metaanalyses say yes, some large retrospective studies published recently say no(so people are trying to change the paradigm). I just realized I've never done it. What is your practice?

not much of a betting guy but I'd put up a decent amount of money that the emphasis on training close to failure is mainly a cultural one, and that long term analyses will probably bear out the same things that are showing up in these individual studies/metaanalyses of short term studies

Both secondary research (e.g. metaanalyses) and replication studies are focused on the goal of establishing what we know. But what about new primary studies? Is it possible to also base those on a foundation of cumulative knowledge?

I'll tread delicately to make this point, but I don't get the sense that HRM staff have the training in research methods or stats to be able to, say, critically review a few metaanalyses on bike lanes and health, and then make the findings legible to councilors.

So I'd think of the challenge of making the data useful as partly about big databases/big metaanalyses as in @harveyplankton.bsky.social 's comment, but also relationship-building and searching out local analyses and questions. Make overviews of the data and show them to lots of people (I'm game!)

You know what would be a neat feature for these AI research assistants? An option to exclude reviews and metaanalyses. Prompting doesn't seem to work.
