#CausalityCrisis
This is so important for so many movements (including the climate movement). If you read one thing this week, let it be this. Also, I just bought a bunch of books! Thanks, @chanda.blacksky.app!

To build a truly democratic media system, we need to understand how we got here. And we need to think of our media system as part of the infrastructure of democracy.

@victorpickard.bsky.social, @shahrzadshams.bsky.social, and @bilalb.bsky.social identify 4⃣ problems at the root of the crisis.

There seems to be a total absence of nuance too. The options are presented as binary: Full-On Lockdowns vs. Unmitigated Spread.

The notion of hybrid learning seems to have been buried, along with the thought that those *who can* learn from home could be enabled to do that in certain circumstances.

Getting my Kuhn & Piaget on, this makes sense to me to understand the profound and persistent polarization in the field.

We need a way to get less wrong, together.

Our disease #CausalityCrisis promoted by lack of #Accountability at multiple community levels for increased virus spread from decreased population vaccination
As I clarified, the parents of the (presumably) unvaccinated kid that caused the infection are responsible

I’m having this fight with my brother who is refusing to vaccinate his kid. He argues it’s no one else’s business, when it really, really is everyone else’s business

#Accountability for increased virus spread from decreased population vaccination
Article says the acute infection occurred before 12 months old when child was too young to be vaccinated.

Not the parents’ fault.

This is so tragic and preventable. “Although they recovered from the initial measles illness, the child developed and ultimately died from subacute sclerosing panencephalitis, or SSPE - a rare but universally fatal complication that can occur in individuals who had measles early in life”
Child dies from rare measles-related complication, LA County health officials say
Health officials reported the death of a Los Angeles County child from a complication of measles infection acquired during infancy.

They put disabled people in the “other” category and forget about them, instead of fighting with us for better healthcare and social supports.

It’s time people realize they won’t be the exception.

Most are far closer to disability than they realize.

It can happen to anyone.
