#Semantics
That's bothered me to no end: it's a machine that follows rules for the probabilistic arrangement of series of symbols, in response to symbols: it's nothing but stochastic syntax-formation throughout the entire process. There's no semantics! It's Searle's Chinese Room throughout the whole process!
An LLM response that is factually incorrect has exactly the same validity, in the machine's programming, as one that is factually correct. There is no contextual correction mechanism in an LLM, because an LLM *does not actually understand what words mean*.
I have lost count of how many people (including people both older and younger than me) I’ve talked to about LLMs who did not know they are capable of making stuff up.

“hallucinating” is an industry term to get people to skip over it because they don’t know it means “making stuff up.”

Wow— Ken! A whole 60 days?! Goody gumdrops for you!

Oh— and he wasn’t ’just a child predator’~ So much for Semantics again.

dw they use reference semantics
October 31, 2026 at 5:42 PM
and a coinbase exec tried to argue semantics with you on main about what a federal contractor means

This isn’t just pretentious semantics.

The ”gap is narrowing” horse-race rhetoric we use to cover election DIRECTLY fuels conspiracies and “voter fraud!” claims.

Some state GOPs intentionally slowed the counting of mail-in votes to exploit this coverage.

Just stop doing this.

Really semantics-mogged that guy, stay lexicon-maxxing 💪🏻💪🏻

"in where" don't get hung up on semantics
November 3, 2026 at 6:48 AM
nevermind this would change the semantics of an xrpc too much :(
November 1, 2026 at 6:53 AM
The goal of all of this hair-splitting and semantics is to browbeat you into accepting, "... and therefore, the denial of political, civil, citizenship rights and basic self-determination to the Palestinian people is just and necessary." And you don't have to be that type of sucker. It's not hard.

We are parsing semantics. Agreed.
November 3, 2026 at 4:02 PM
I guess that's semantics but both duration and style made it more akin to military occupation
November 1, 2026 at 5:37 PM
yup, syntactic disagreements between parsers are where parse tree differential attacks come from

notably this can happen before semantics even comes into the picture
November 2, 2026 at 12:34 PM
you cant really seperate semantics from philosophy tho,,
November 3, 2026 at 5:30 PM
Semantics, the argument still stand.
November 1, 2026 at 9:49 PM
Can we cease the semantics game please. The citizen Robert Francis Prevost is voting. Your last sentence is catnip for the clowns who will argue Mr. Francis, a US citizen, should not vote.

It is unavoidably and

purely a matter of

you're not arguing from a legitimate moral position, so you can go fuck yourself on semantics.

Maybe it’s semantics, but the thing I’m doing with Umineko isn’t even notes, it’s more like journaling or something
November 2, 2026 at 8:27 PM
Semantics, she’s a persona non grata

Reyes: So let me understand now, what DOJ is telling me, for the first time. You are telling me that Trump ordered DOI, via Truth Social post, to close the park on Nov. 15.

(honestly, I'm getting confused in all the arguing about semantics)

"eve" (Germanic *ēbanþs/*ēbund-) appears to be some sort of -nt-derivative of the epi/ob/by preposition, but the semantics are hard to explain
November 1, 2026 at 12:57 AM
also not arguing with anyone but i feel like steady.. to me. means consistently ahead but not by far/enough to call. but semantics…
November 4, 2026 at 3:13 AM
Germany is just having a bit of a mope about semantics.
It is happening regardless.
