@deersyrup yea I'd be interested

I haven't quite gotten this far down the rabbit hole of personal organization of thoughts, but the closest I've been is informally naming my messy pile of links and misc. that I think of as a personal bibliography a "metacortex" which is probably in the same […]

all they have is a tenuous metacortex of expert systems and an abiding sense of being profoundly out of their depth
Terrible plan because my first, second, and third thoughts were all "either way it's getting ate."

Working for METACORTEX can be a real trip. Be careful answering those burner phones delivered by courier to your desk.

I Just rewatched The Matrix and it hit different this time.

Thomas Anderson had the boring day job at Metacortex… but at night he was Neo (a skilled hacker).

That level of dedication after work makes me want to treat my own “after hours” time way more seriously.

Zuck should've renamed it Metacortex instead of Meta, it would be in keeping with the traditions of his kind (Soylent, Palantir, Prometheus, etc).

but doesn't know what it is.
One night, while debugging a routine patch for Metacortex, Thomas notices that the **memory addresses** in his debugger are mapping to physical locations in the city. He deletes a line of code, the streetlights outside his window flicker and die in exact synchronization.

Before Morpheus ever offered the pills, Thomas Anderson was already feeling the "splinter in the mind." This concept focuses on the technical glitches he encounters while working at **Metacortex**, which he assumes are bugs in his code but are actually the system struggling to render his awakening.

The first ten minutes of the first one are so fucking cool, but it feels so rushed. What was he selling on mini-discs? Why was he looking for Morpheus? What is his job at Metacortex? Most importantly what phone is that and where can I get one?

Wait, what? Baby Dolph Lundgren is Neo working for MetaCortex in the Matrix until he finds a sword and then he goes to space camp with Green Aslan in Asgard?

Did some #thematrix sight-seeing in Sydney today...

Saw the Heart O' The City Hotel, from the beginning and end of the movie, honestly kind of weird to see IRL after looking at it in the movie.

Second shot is the road Neo looks out at when contemplating leaving […]

“Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late. Ah, I use the side door—that way Lumbergh can’t see me. After that I sorta space out for an hour. Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I’m working.”

This happens with or without AI, to be clear

That's how most of this is already a really familiar story to anyone in the corporate world.

Here's the big issue though: the assumption here was I save money on payroll here at Metacortex w/o impacting other KPIs.

Obviously I know a bunch of applicants won't be qualified, and an even larger number will be but will still be longshots because, at Metacortex, even a boring "staff engineer on internal tooling, level 3" job will be a status symbol, even worth leaving another good tech job for.

Obviously, if this is the present day, I, the amoral perfectly-spherically-business-beast mid to high level manager at Metacortex Corporation, feel like I'm in a good situation because there's probably going to be 2000 resumes for this job, and we can pay really well.
May 18, 2025 at 5:22 PM
A & B work on our internal tool for deploying other team's code in a specific kind of environment and use case, because Metacortex is huge and supports code across a variety of platforms. This is a pretty important part of a pretty small but not worthless bit of our business.
May 18, 2025 at 5:18 PM
This is where I get into what our hypothetical Metacortex Corporation's specific product team does.

Let's say C decides to leave but A and B are still working hard. I make sure A & B have great performance ratings, as they always have, & give them raises. All seems good.
May 18, 2025 at 5:17 PM
I am now, as the Metacortex head, doing great for a little bit; A, B, and C might be a bit sad or upset I fired their colleagues but a job's a job, and maybe they don't care, and they're professionals so they do the same quality work regardless. For now.
