Among holistic thinkers, it's common to call Earth a "single organism" or a "superorganism" — Lovelock frequently used the latter. I understand the impulse, but I avoid doing so bc I think it confuses things. Earth is not a superorganism — it's closer to a metaecosystem, a living web of ecologies
