My gut feeling on "worldbuilding" is that it varies wildly by project, but the core of it is establishing enough internal logic that the reader doesn't feel that nothing matters because anything can happen.

I've been writing a thing about RFK Jr and I'm really struck by the Fauci metatheory that has sprung up to marry the notionally progressive anti-War on Terror types with the hard right. It's hard to ignore how the 2000s security state radicalized people like Taibbi, Greenwald, etc.
We have an actual President attempt to overturn an election and is clearly authoritarian but per Matt Taibbi the real threat to American democracy is a public health official

I think this is a really important problem in terms of the idea that these models are useful or important devices for doing science (as per the metatheory critique by @olivia.science & @irisvanrooij.bsky.social that scientific progress isn't just factoring in past observations to triangulate truth).

why is it prevalent to believe that human thinking is, or should be, constrained by logic? which logic? in Logic (the field) we must grab a metatheory to articulate e.g. truth. if humans operate strictly in some logical theory T, then we haven't access to a metatheory and so lack access to truth.

The reason Lean succeed so much and other theorem provers failed is, as much as the types crowd hate to hear it, because they invested in metaprogramming.
Type theory ppl care about the beauty of metatheory, they don't care about user experience, and that's why most other provers are a pain to use.
