i wish i knew about moissanite when I did metalsmithing. I always wanted to work with a (lab) diamond but they're expensive. if I knew about moissanite I would've been trying pavé and whatnot

I really need to start masking up when metalsmithing. I end up sneezing incessantly from inhaling sanding materials…I just hate wearing them while working. Now, don’t get me wrong, I was happy to wear them throughout covid when out and about. I just don’t like wearing them while creating 🫤🤦🏼‍♀️

Oh that's quite the fun process, and I've long been tempted by a furnace or kiln too! Just tend to lean more to the tech side of things, but this sort of metalsmithing is really appealing as something to play with

A studio from our story, ROMOHERRERA: Cristina Romo, the third generation of a family of silversmiths, and Eduardo Herrera, who studied architecture. They melt their own metal in Taxco el Viejo, Mexico, and keep the hammer marks. #Metalsmithing #Handmade #Copper

Been up to my eyeballs in work and unpacking from the move, but I've made time for some creativity: etching copper in my #metalsmithing class, a quick watercolor sketch of Johnston Ridge at #MtStHelens, and a couple #illustrations with Copics. #NoAI

Ah, shoot. If you lived in town, you could swing by and take this big old 1970s battle axe (not a real one, obvs), but a homemade one very much of the Conan era.

The Crucible has been one of many feeders into the Bay Area metal arts and jewelry community for so long - we will be worse off with them closing. They were also one of the few public places where teens and kids could take metalsmithing classes.
I've spent deeply happy hours here building tables. Thousands of kids have learned craft here. One of the world's great concentrations of wealth, and the Bay Area can't keep a community gem like this going? The second biggest cultural institution in Oakland? www.sfchronicle.com/entertainmen...
Oakland’s Crucible arts school abruptly shuts its doors, leaving students and artists in limbo
The 56,000-square-foot West Oakland institution abruptly closed over the weekend, leaving employees, students and artists waiting for answers about its future.

A top piece of a copper plague mask I made for class. The mask is made out of three layers of copper with a patina on the inside mimicking miasma. Made for a class #metalsmithing

May I recommend extremely esoteric forms of metalsmithing?? (Please let me tell you all about it)
Every single hobby I love has has been infected by slopped up and unserious software. It's exhausting. aftermath.site/ai-slop-hobbie...

A casted copper doll pined by stainless steel pins with flowers instead of a head in a purposefully banged up box on moss. Made for a class #metalsmithing

Another piece for a class. This is a large pin made out of several layers of molded copper that depicts a 3d rose on top of 2-D mushrooms and flowers. #metalsmithing

Nowadays I put silver on them more often because it matches their palette better, but I kept metalsmithing for them as a major hobby

…and they still like leather, in various ways 🙂

Great collection of projects. The samples are inspiring! How many students? What age? You said it’s an intermediate class, so they’ve had a little metalsmithing experience already? And will they be annealing as they go along?

Been hammering steel so much these past three days that I'm too sore to do it more today. I suppose this is an important milestone when studying metalsmithing 😅

I finally had time to get this pendant finished up. It is very clearly my first metal piercing project, but considering how rough it was in the middle stages I'm happy with the outcome. The braided waxed cord is likely temporary until I can find my brown deerskin leather. #MetalSmithing

Sketches for acid etching future jewelry in this semester's #MetalSmithing class! Digging out my life after a grueling move to a lovely new apartment at the start of the month, glad to be on the far side of that.
