"Everything is metaphysics because metaphysics is the study of existence" - buddy you know what I mean if I say a conversation is "metaphysical" in nature, you don't get to say "you dolt, all conversations are metaphysical in nature"
The problem is that there is nothing to engage with because this is just totally incoherent. Metaphysics is the study of existence. Pretty much everything you might say “relies on metaphysics” in some way. I think cdj@ was very generous in gently puzzling out what Will intended to say here.

I think the most plausible reading is that he means "metaphysics" in the sense of the Metaphysics section of a bookstore: ghosts, auras, etc.

It raises questions of ontology, which is a branch metaphysics, but so does the existence of chocolate and carpeting. You were proposing an either/or and seemed to loop in things that aren't technically metaphysics in your meaning of the word metaphysics.
