Please explain to me, why on earth is the United States not in a #metricsystem? I’m reading in article and #meters, #centimeters are sometimes translated into #feet and others into #yards. Why are we still doing this to ourselves? The metric #system is so much simpler.

The BBC News Style Guide states: "Never write "square kilometres", but always sq km".

So, on a BBC website, it would be expected that "sqm" meant "square metres". Of course there would be no confusion if everyone stuck with SI units and standard SI symbols.

Road sign designs that were ahead of their time - Happy 90th birthday to Margaret Calvert.

It's unfortunate though, that the international symbol for metres (m) is still being used as an abbreviation for miles.
