best take from a hard core microecon liberty guy that I've ever seen

I suspect me as a teenager with autism and ADHD could have schooled this guy on basically any standardized test. They don't measure intelligence, they measure ability to take the test.

My 760/740 SAT was good. You know what was better? 33 MicroEcon ACT. Crucially, I did not take a MicroEcon class.
Here is Eliezer Yudkowsky explaining (like a very normal person who absolutely does not have some kind of acute personality disorder) why, on the basis of his childhood test scores, he is a special genius uniquely qualified to change the world:

I’m not an economist, but I have taught microecon to policy students, and there is an entire section in the textbook on how the private sector will under supply public goods, including under investing in basic research. It is literally a textbook example.
The private sector will not fill the gaps. The size of the cuts is too big, and the incentives does not align to do basic research or train the next generation of PhD students.

Future microecon: products don't have prices, customers have tolerances.

Last's key idea is that tech investor/executive thinking is the opposite of Microecon 101 and the invisible hand. It's centered around attaining monopolies and then drawing massive profits even as you enshitify the product. You can have lots of failures as long as you have one of those "successes."

Vineyarddawg's HOT TAEK is that everybody should be required to take microecon 101.

business education quietly consists mostly of talking points and propaganda, ownership almost never has any reason to be intimately familiar with microecon shit but should be pretty familiar with whether or not having a giant pile or money or debt is good or bad, which genuinely varies

in case it’s not abundantly clear to those of you who have followed me for a bit: I am a fucking nerd. I took as many ap classes as I possibly could in hs. I think I graduated ha with something like 20 college credits. the only ap exam I failed was microecon.

Accepting that I was giving up two years of career development over courses I already understood (e.g stats, microecon, policy analysis).

Microecon ball knowers: is there a particular reason why if you get a bottle of coke or pepsi or whatever from a takeaway in the UK it is /so often/ a bottle in packaging that makes it clear the intended distribution country was somewhere else in Europe, often not in the EU?

this rings of people ranting at like, Krugman, about what they learned in an intro to microecon class they took in 1997.

This is Microecon 101. Producers will charge whatever the market is willing to pay. If prices in one set of goods go up, then prices on substitutes also go up (even if they're not as good). All part of why tariffs are dumb af as a broad policy.

Posting my complete Intro to MicroEconomics course one lecture at a time. Hopefully helpful to someone once it's complete!

that's why we gotta start taxing microecon papers

Good post. When we apply microecon approaches to studying complex phenomena we always have to worry about partial equilibrium/marginal effects.

Regression overreach is real

I swear there is a correlation between right-libertarianism and being stuck forever in Intro to Microecon mentally.

They often can't think outside of the box of the evaluation of basic individual economic decisions in a vacuum.

My apologies. I meant in the microecon sense.

Managed to ace a MicroEcon test but it was lot of work. Going to rethink how I approach schoolwork, I reckon.

And godsdamn I love playing bass.

Good night. May you wale up tomorrow and find something or someone to love.

Demand dictates price. If buyers refuse to buy at a specific price you're either not creating enough demand or charging too much. There is no intrinsic requirement for prices to increase on a specific good. This is ESPECIALLY true for luxury products like games.

Did you not take freshman microecon?
AAA video games should cost $100 on launch. this would still be extremely cheap for the amount of time and enjoyment you get out of them! But an audience of whiny babies has kept them literally at the same price for *two decades* despite both general inflation *and* sector-specific costs rising
