Folly, and also small-c conservative— and for my money, that’s why Koch funds L&E, funded public choice scholars like Buchanan (eg at GMU), and now funds metascience (eg through FAI).

The donors understand that adding simplistic regressions from microeconomics to a field encumbers that field. /end

There are analogies in other fields: public choice theory in economics (see Pearson, perestroika), and now metascience in scientific research and policy.

In all these cases, limited microeconomics is being jammed down as the only legitimate way to make decisions, and that’s folly.

I found Buy Nothing interesting because people felt obliged to tell you why they wanted something. And on my side I did like feeling a thing would be used, rather than ending its career in the dump. So it's more Mauss than microeconomics, but some valuation is going on.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell @philpem @cstross "Pilot programs" are by definition, not UBIs. They can only explore the microeconomics. The problem with an *actual* UBI is that the retail sector will immediately adapt to slurp it up (inflating costs of basic goods & services). Provision of safety nets is […]

More than that!

A part of metascience is basically Microeconomics of Science and we know that this leads to no change, status quo, small-c conservatism. I was just talking to someone in law yesterday who drew analogies to the criminal justice reform movement.

And @prospect.org had a whole issue

Everyone who took intro to microeconomics picks a prime number because they think primes are 'too mathematically hostile' for the casual mind. Now prime numbers are the most crowded place on earth.

A question about feedback in teaching. #TeachEcon In my microeconomics course, students take short handwritten tests throughout the semester. In the next class, we discuss the solutions and I share answers that earned full marks, to help them prepare for the final exam.

I took both microeconomics and macroeconomics in college, and neither one of those classes--nor any other class--bothered to teach the basic rules and goals of the economic game we're all forced to live and die by.

Because the game is rigged, and they want us to NOT know the rules.

Analysts & Politicians Are So Blinded By Macroeconomics They Overlook Consumer Microeconomics!

Sitting among your peers, one can easily forget that not everyone thinks on the macroeconomic level. Most Americans experience microeconomics regularly and that is being overlooked! tinyurl.com/3fcem87j

yeah I actually kinda need more math than I have sometimes for work right now. like my understanding of wacky matrix stuff is far less than my father's (phd in microeconomics) and I wish it was not.

Looking forward to presenting research on “Valuing Jobs with Unobserved Offers” tomorrow in the Applied Microeconomics seminar at the PUC. Come for the sharp bounds... or because your outside options are worse. My identification problem starts at the door.

There was a very good article linked here somewhere a while back. The DSA’s ideas about POLITICAL Economy are largely correct. Their ideas about actual economics are largely dumb. At least when it comes to microeconomics.
