#MicroPlastics
That reminds me: I need to give bezos more money by ordering plastic that was made in china in a factory with questionable conditions. The plastic probably hurt the environment to produce, will give me harm and microplastics, and will harm the ecosystem to dispose of. Prime day — exaggerated a bit.

The subject of #vampires and #microplastics has been coming up recently so of course I slipped into Constance to have her talk about it.

"The reason that Jesus wasn't cool with synthetic fabrics? He didn't want microplastics entering his penis when he was barebacking twinks. It's right there in the Bible if you look hard enough; which obviously you haven't; ergo, I am a Super-Bible Scholar."

Scientists Discover "Pac-Man Enzyme" That Eats Plastic
A newly identified bacterial enzyme can break down certain polyesters and penicillin, suggesting a possible link between plastic digestion and antibiotic resistance. For decades, synthetic plastic waste has been collecting in vast oceanic garbage patches and fragmenting into hazardous microplastics and nanoplastics simply because the biological world cannot rapidly digest it. Microorganisms do colonize these synthetic materials in the environment to form biofilms, creating a unique microbial habitat that researchers call the “plastisphere.” The problem is not a lack of microbial appetite, but rather a profound chemical mismatch between modern synthetic polymers and the enzymes bacteria naturally possess. Researchers at the University of Konstanz have now identified an enzyme that attacks certain polyesters and bioplastics. Its wide-open active site inspired the team to call it the “Pac-Man enzyme.” Laboratory tests also showed that the same enzyme can cleave penicillin, raising the possibility that it could help bacteria resist some antibiotics. Bioplastics break down, but conventional plastic persists Biologists Harry Lerner and David Schleheck uncovered the enzyme while investigating whether microbial communities could completely degrade long-chain aliphatic polyesters, or LCAPs. The materials were developed by chemist Stefan Mecking’s team, which collaborated on the study published in The ISME Journal. “We buried...

Dude, I liked your stuff before and I fully respect you but come on. The way the world is heading there very well may not be a recovery. Did we miss the scalding summer heat? The super El Niño? Microplastics? The inevitable death of the Amazon rainforest?

So the thing about the Eat-More wrapper is that a little microplastics is okay.

4/8 Paxton highlights a growing industry trend: clothing manufacturers are increasingly turning to synthetic fabrics like polyester, rayon, and spandex.

The concern? Research shows these materials can shed microplastics and rely on dangerous chemical additives.

This is what actual food looks like. I know it’s confusing as it’s not huge, full of bloody dead rancid cow, or botulism. You should try it sometime, you might not die from hardened arteries, microplastics or RFK jnr’s unfounded science denial. Just a suggestion. Have a nice day.

i should use my bigass wooden cutting board i got for cheap instead of continuing to shave microplastics into all my food

but it’s so huge it barely fits on my counter and i can barely fit it into the sink to clean

also tbh i have to buy more stuff for it like curing oil first and i dont want to

Featured in @nbcnews.com: @danafarbernews.bsky.social’s Dr. Kimmie Ng notes the rise in ultraprocessed food could be a factor in increased cases of colorectal cancer in young people, and studies looking into the possible role of microplastics are ongoing. Read more: bit.ly/3Wbjd7u
When teens get colorectal cancer, it’s often an aggressive form of the disease
Colorectal cancer in teens is extremely rare. But when cases are diagnosed, they’re often advanced and more difficult to treat.
