Did you know that a diaper change can give a micropreemie a brain bleed?

Me doing cares on the 27 week 900g micropreemie through the portholes of an isolette that is 93°C and 90% humidity:

Imagine losing someone at a young age, not being allowed to mourn, having to watch her start to literally decompose, and now having to watch her child suffer and quite possibly not survive either. It's so barbaric, just so they can point to a micropreemie and call it a miracle.

Petition for there to be a diaper size between micropreemie and preemie. Or for there to be little suspenders for babies on CPAP who have big bellies and no butt that wiggle out of their diapers and poop all over their swaddles :)))))

A nurse I know told me my micropreemie needed to be exposed to germs so he build up his immune system, which is…not how medically fragile infants work

And before anyone comes for me for implying that a micropreemie doesn’t deserve to live: the state of Georgia made the decision, not the family. And that has been their main source of distress. The situation was out of their hands entirely.

How do they carry out the babies that need medical equipment? My littlest sister (now 10 and thriving!) was a micropreemie and attached to so many machines, a lot of her "neighbors" in the NICU were the same.

This story struck a chord. My micropreemie arrived 13 yrs ago today. 15 weeks early, 1.5 lbs. Now taller than I am, he is smart, funny, & kind. He has 20/10 vision despite Stage 4 ROP. PDA resolved. Lung disease & asthma don't slow him down. Prematurity is just part of his story. He is our miracle.❤️
Lakin Knight is spending his seventh week at Sunnybrook Hospital swaddled in a blanket and lying in an incubator in the neonatal intensive care unit.

On March 18, when he was born 14 weeks premature, he weighed only 1.6 pounds.

At Sunnybrook Hospital, which treats more babies born before 26 weeks than any other hospital in Canada, mothers experience the joy — and heartbreak — of a premature pregnancy.

Early Intervention was incredibly important for my micropreemie and our family—just life-changing, irreplaceable, long-lasting effects. I am certain that her whole life will be easier and happier because we received that free, multi-faceted, accessible help her first three years.
Something I haven't seen covered extensively with regards to the Department of Education is the fact that the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA) funds early intervention services, along with Medicaid. EI is usually free, or very low cost for families.

The people who say how “unnatural” it would be to grow a baby in an artificial womb are the same ones applauding a micropreemie being incubated in a brain dead woman.

We are big Radiolab fans but kiddo chose this particular episode because he — a micropreemie himself — was curious. It took us hours to listen to the entire thing because we stopped to discuss so many aspects of it. It was triggering & revealing & affirming & so good. ❤️ radiolab.org/podcast/23-w...

I’ve said it before but if you’re a Paramedic you should absolutely maintain NRP.

It’s easily one of the most valuable of the alphabet soup courses.

PALS and ACLS have not prepared you.

My friend had a micropreemie this year (he's good now) and in the one they were in, I believe visitors have to wear masks but not parents. But the NICU there also has private rooms for each baby, so there's less exposure overall.
