"This work was supported in part by...the NIH U01 CA224175 Pancreatic Cancer Microenvironment Network Cancer Moonshot Award (to V.P.B.)"
Unbelievable news.

Pancreatic is one of the deadliest cancers.

New paper shows personalized mRNA vaccines can induce durable T cells that attack pancreatic cancer, with 75% of patients cancer free at three years—far, far better than standard of care.

Thanks to @natmedicine.bsky.social for inviting this 'Turning Point' as part of their 30-yr anniversary 🎉

Back in 2013, we published a Nat Med study that not only impacted the #tumor #microenvironment field, but also the trajectory of our lab 🧪

Led by a great team- Pyonteck, Akkari & Schuhmacher 🙌

Immune evasion through mitochondrial transfer in the tumour microenvironment - Nature
Mitochondria with mutations in their DNA from cancer cells can be transferred to T cells in the tumour microenvironment, which leads to T cell dysfunction and impaired antitumour immunity.

For treatment and outcomes for cancer, the tumor microenvironment is pivotal, but we've never had a non-invasive way to assess it. Until now, a blood test breakthrough!

With sequencing >10 million cells + AI, discovery & validation of a blood test that informs response to therapy and prognosis.

Hi I’m Ashi! A cancer biologist interested in the intersection of aging and cancer, and all things microenvironment!
This is a great post introducing people in the #bluesky community! Biology/genomics/cancer friends - Should we start a thread introducing ourselves?

I am Daniela and I work doing #cancer #genomics research at LIIGH UNAM, Mexico 🇲🇽 I enjoy learning to play violin 🎻 and #pilates 💪🏽
There are now over 14,000,000 people here!

Science and conservation friends, reply and reintroduce/reintroduce yourselves-

I’m David. I study shark conservation, and post about that as well as marine biology and the environment in general. I’m in the Washington, DC area.

We have hundreds of PanINs in our pancreas, especially after age 40. They are a pre-cancerous lesion, but it is rare for one to progress to cancer (PDAC). Now we know a reason for that. The microenvironment.
