EXAM CHEATING?

"For a Student. The series of microphotographs ... might consist of copies of any subject the student wished to study. Thus, the subject he was studying would be constantly before his eyes for reference ..."

And before you ask, here are some examples for how they look (under the microscopes). There is a huge range of morphologies and just about as much debate on what they are and how they lived.

Most (maybe all?) speed camera programs involve a human review already. Doesn't necessarily have to be a cop though!

Here's the abstract from our 1995 paper on Santa Rita fire history in Forstarchiv. The original is in German, and I don't have a pdf. This paper includes some exquisite microphotographs of thin sections of fire scars, which I may have shared here before. www.cabidigitallibrary.org/doi/full/10....

heads up to all the lowballers out there, Rosa de la Cruz's Felix Gonzalez-Torres rub-on transfer edition did not sell last week at Christie's

Felix Gonzalez-Torres made early works using details of news photos of crowds, including "Double Fear," a 1987 edition that is a rub-on transfer. One of the edition is for sale this week, never rubbed: greg.org/archive/2025...

I’m referring to these passages in the camera law, which seem fairly robust.
May 6, 2026 at 4:01 AM
Illegal to retain and law specifies that the tech system cannot capture images except if there’s a violation, nor retain beyond that need, and cannot capture faces, etc. I don’t doubt loopholes and errors could be found, but it seems pretty tightly worded.

In Washington state. Not that I don’t believe someone somewhere violates those rules, but they at least exist. https://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.63.170

Konietzko-Meier et al. also leveraged this sample to provide some of the first comprehensive histological sampling of the pelvic girdle in Metoposaurus, proving you really can cut just about anything in temnospondyls: doi.org/10.3897/fr.2...

Three new Brazilian species of the zodariid genus Cybaeodamus Mello-Leitão, 1938 are described: C. ampullatus sp. nov. (♂♀), C. spinosissimus sp. nov. (♂) and C. malkini sp. nov. (♂). Descriptions are accompanied with high-quality illustrations and microphotographs. An updated distribution map and a key to all the species in the genus are presented. The morphological diagnostic characters of the genus are discussed.

Stanhopes - tiny optical devices, often embedded in everyday objects like rings, needle-cases, pen knives, and more - were very popular in the latter half of the 19th Century.

This miniature cane (just 16.6 cm in length) features a stanhope in the handle.

Citation farming, this LLM nonsense could just exist to boost citations of real papers (that might also be fraudulent)

Experiments #inmice show how cusps form & what tricks can add more (spoiler: it’s hard). This gives us the #evodevo framework for how development could have shaped tooth evolution. **Somebody** just needed to get to work 🦷🧫💻 (6/20)

Given the way things are going I think we should all delete our social media accounts and go back to the original communication method: microphotographs hidden in hollow feathers carried by messenger pigeons.
Given the way things are going I think we should all delete our social media accounts and go back to the original communication method: decoding the intentions of others through close examination of the entrails of waterfowl.
Given the way things are going I think we should all delete our social media accounts and go back to the original communication method: establishing a network of soot-covered street urchins who will move throughout the city unnoticed gathering information and passing along coded messages.

Current "How Many Tardigrades on that Stick?" count: 73! I am nearly done with sample four (SO. MANY. ROTIFERS), and then I hope to start doing some keying, slowly but surely. I also plan to eventually post the observations/photos to @inaturalist.bsky.social too.
