A neat thing about Tolkien is how he structures time as related to key events in LotR. The hobbits leave Bag-End at the equinox. They set out from Rivendell at sunset on Christmas Day, the ring is destroyed on 25 March, which is associated with the crucifixion, and Aragorn weds Arwen on Midsummer

On a related note, I really want to do a mounting of Midsummer Night’s Dream where the lovers pairings that Theseus wants is traditional boy/girl boy/girl, but the happy ending is boy/boy girl/girl (obvs swap who are siblings). Also, apparently Tolkien wasn't sure whether to go with elf or fairy and was eventually nudged into picking elf, possibly for vaguely homophobia-related reasons:

Sort of related, I played Egeus in A Midsummer Night's Dream in high school. It seemed like unusual casting. I was small, meek, and...yes, a woman.

The director knew what he was doing; it turns out I was the angriest person in that place. That opportunity unlocked levels I didn't know I had.
