#Midwives
Some folks have been surprised that midwives are so pro choice, but I'd say 99% of the midwives I've met (lots) are fiercely feminist.

Yes, they did. The term "witch" applied to both men and women. In Europe, many of the women were midwives. And many of the men were gay.

Victoria has Maternal Child Health Nurses who do this already. They are nurses, midwives and have postgrad qualifications in Child health and development.

Most midwives are women. I assume that means that most newborns are girls.

“In New York, Gov Kathy Hochul has allowed licensed midwives to administer the measles vaccine as part of a recent disaster declaration responding to the state’s growing outbreak. Pennsylvania, however, does not allow vaccines to be provided by traditional midwives” — fix this today @governor.pa.gov

Refusing is a different move. The midwives Shiphrah and Puah refused Pharaoh. Dr. King openly broke unjust laws and took the penalty. Utah's Republican Lt. Gov. refused the DOJ's demand for voter data, and a judge dismissed the case.

#OTD in 1848, the Boston Female Medical College opened.

Founded by Samuel Gregory. He didn't support #WomensRights. Rather, he believed it was "unnatural" & an offense to female decency for male docs to assist women in childbirth. His plan was to train women to be midwives & nurses only. 🧵 #MedSky

Until 2022, Minnesota was one of the many states where it was a felony for APCs (advanced practice clinicians like nurse midwives with specialized training) to provide abortion care.

The court agreed with @genderjustice.us, which had sued the state: that ban violated our state constitution.
In 2025, APCs provided more than 360,000 abortions (90% uncertainty interval, 349,300–380,200) in the United States. This includes both procedural and medication abortion and both in-person and telehealth provision - almost a third of all abortions nationwide. www.guttmacher.org/fact-sheet/a...

Makes sense. Dude completely forgot the generations of midwives and women healers who were killed by the colonization of the Church across Europe and the Americas in favor of patriarchy’s Western medicine.

White immigrant Americans, history is still remembered, even when you forget it.

In the dark ages, the churches came up with the idea of women being witches and associated with Satan, when they were mostly old women, herbalists, and midwives. They said women got powers from the devil, but what they really wanted was women with no power.

I’ve been kind of assuming so? It’s fun to laugh at ancient (and modern) men and their bizarre assumptions about women’s bodies, but surely midwives would have seen plenty of evidence of endometriosis and probably grasped the idea that there’s a whole range of womb behaviors beyond normal pregnancy.
