Oh, crap. When I remove the spear, the dying knight shapeshifts into a Helghast, "a nightmarish agent of the Darklords." My Mindshield protects me from the Helghast's Mindforce, which is apparently even more powerful than Mindblast. It is also immune to my Mindblast.

The text informs me that since I've successfully completed Book 1, I can now choose a new Kai Discipline. Although the Kai Lords are best described as psionic rangers, I'm more interested in the psionic aspect than the ranger aspect, so I choose Mind Over Matter. I now have 6 Kai Disciplines:
Action Chart showing 6 Kai Disciplines: Mindblast (+2 COMBAT SKILL points), Mindshield (no points lost when attacked by Mindblast), Healing (+1 ENDURANCE point for each section without combat), Hunting (no need for a meal when instructed to eat), Sixth Sense, and Mind Over Matter

The "Disciplines" section of my Action Chart looks like this now. You'll see that there's still space for four more Disciplines. What I enjoyed most about Lone Wolf was that you "leveled up" b/w books, meaning you could choose a new Discipline. (CS and EP stayed the same, though.)

Better than Weaponskill, IMO, is the psionic ability Mindblast, as it gives you a +2 CS bonus when fighting any creature not specifically noted as being immune to Mindblast. I'm also going to choose Mindshield, which is the Discipline that gives you immunity to Mindblast.

Desiga is not fond of Ani having the mindshield but they're actually pretty decent at communicating, if not a little too foreword at times.

During their years with the Gnolls, they picked up enough of the culture between them and Gatherings to understand when Ani is having issues communicating.

Yeah you generally want at least one mindshield in warlock zones, maybe more in retaliations because he's almost guaranteed to show up. The biggest thing is a bigger squad though. More guns always good.

Mindblast (and Mindshield) is one of the most obvious tells. In LW combat is often going on in the psychic realm at the same time as the physical realm. This struck me as very odd bitd and I couldn't see where it came from...
